🇬🇧 Alan Minter vs Ronnie Harris 🇺🇸
12 April 1977
Royal Albert Hall, London
Ronnie Harris arrived in London unbeaten at 23-0 and with an Olympic gold medal behind him. Nine years earlier, on his way to winning gold in Mexico City, he had also beaten Britain’s future WBC welterweight world champion John H. Stracey.
Against Minter, Harris showed his class again. The slick American caused him all sorts of problems before Minter’s troublesome cuts forced the fight to be stopped after eight rounds.
Ironically, Harris beat two future British world champions in Stracey and Minter, yet never became a world champion himself. His one world-title shot came against Hugo Corro in 1978, losing via split-decision for the undisputed middleweight title.
