On January 5, 1992, Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders put on a signature display of elusive magic, breaking loose for an unforgettable 47-yard touchdown run to cap off a 38-6 blowout of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional Playoff game. Taking the handoff out of the shot-gun draw, Sanders immediately met a wall of defenders at the line of scrimmage, but used a jaw-dropping spin move and impossible low-center-of-gravity cuts to make four Cowboys defenders miss in small space. Bouncing off contact and accelerating into open turf, Sanders cut across the field, outran the secondary, and high-stepped into the end zone before calmly handing the ball to the referee. The breathtaking 47-yard score punctuated a 69-yard performance that delivered the Lions their first playoff victory in 34 years and remains one of the definitive highlight-reel runs of Sanders’ legendary career.
