Alexis Arguello knocks out Kevin Rooney in two rounds

Brilliant WBC lightweight champion Alexis Arguello - weighing his heaviest ever at just over 10st - dramatically blasted out New York's tough Kevin Rooney in two rounds in Atlantic City to set up a WBA light-welterweight challenge against Aaron Pryor. Arguello nailed Rooney with a beautifully placed crunching right to the jaw and Rooney slumped to the canvas. He never looked like beating referee Larry Hazard's count. Rooney - Mike Tyson's future trainer - had only lost to Davey Moore and that was at welterweight on a disputed seventh-round stoppage. Pryor, at ringside, said: "I learned one thing - that Arguello can punch at the heavier weight."
