$90 million. 1.5 million buys. Just 89 seconds. In August 1995, Mike Tyson staged one of boxing’s most anticipated returns after three years away. His showdown with Peter McNeeley at the MGM Grand, billed as “The Baddest Man on the Planet Returns,” became a global spectacle, drawing 1.5 million pay‑per‑view purchases and generating around $90 million in revenue. Tyson pocketed between $20–25 million for a fight that barely lasted a minute and a half. He floored McNeeley twice in the opening round before McNeeley’s manager stormed the ring, handing Tyson a disqualification victory. Critics argued McNeeley was never a real threat, but that hardly mattered—the world tuned in for one reason: to see if Tyson was still the most intimidating force in boxing. In under two minutes, he gave them the answer.
