Giancarlo Stanton has officially been activated from the injured list and added to the New York Yankees’ roster for their AL Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox.
Stanton has been sidelined for about 5.5 months after suffering a calf strain in April, with multiple setbacks along the way, including a re-aggravation while running the bases and another calf injury in August. He worked his way back by taking live batting practice and running the bases at Double-A Somerset and Yankee Stadium before being cleared to return.
Stanton is expected to be used primarily as a pinch-hitter and bench weapon as he works his way back into game shape. He appeared in just 24 games during the regular season, hitting .256 with 3 home runs and 14 RBIs. Now, the longtime Yankee is back just in time for one of baseball’s biggest rivalries.
