One of the wildest moments in British television history. In January 1980, a live episode of Good Evening Ulster took an unexpected and terrifying turn when presenter Jackie Fullerton interviewed wrestling giant Giant Haystacks, who stood nearly seven feet tall and weighed around 600 pounds. During the interview, Fullerton questioned whether professional wrestling was actually real. Then everything changed. Haystacks suddenly grabbed the 5'6", 175-pound presenter, lifted him off the ground, and slammed him onto the studio floor in front of the live cameras. Fullerton reportedly suffered several broken ribs but, incredibly, attempted to continue the interview despite the pain. What began as a discussion about the reality of professional wrestling ended with one of the most shocking live television incidents associated with British wrestling. You simply couldn't script television like this.
