The Latino Turning Point interview with Alia Orozco focused on Brian Acosta’s October 16 fight on Pro Box TV and his pursuit of a World Boxing Council title opportunity. The boxer, who goes by Latino, said he split camp between Manny Robles in Los Angeles and Bob Santos in Las Vegas, believes a win could bring him close to a title shot, and would accept a championship fight even on two weeks’ notice.

How did Latino train with Manny Robles and Bob Santos for his next fight?

Latino prepared for his October 16 fight in two places: he spent the first part of camp at Manny Robles’s gym in Los Angeles, then completed the last part in Las Vegas with Bob Santos. He called the arrangement his first time working with both during one camp and said the timing and training suited him.

Sparring in Los Angeles

Acosta went to Los Angeles to spar and encounter a different type of style. That was the reason he gave for changing his usual camp routine, rather than keeping all of his preparation in one city. He described the first part of camp as a chance to work with fighters who would make him adjust.

Finishing camp in Las Vegas

The final part took him back to Las Vegas, where he said he had previously held camps with Santos. Combining that familiar base with the Los Angeles sparring left him satisfied with the preparation. He summed it up as “perfect, perfect timing, perfect everything.”

What did Latino say about boxing styles in Mexico and the United States?

Latino said his early fights in Mexico exposed him largely to opponents who came forward, while boxing in the United States has put him around a wider range of styles. He sees that variety in California and Las Vegas as valuable preparation because it requires a fighter to recognize and respond to different approaches.

The style of his early fights in Mexico

Acosta traced his route to Las Vegas through Los Angeles and his hometown in Mexico. Looking back at his first fights, he said many followed a similar pattern: “Mexican with Mexican is the same style going forward.” He did not describe every Mexican boxer that way. He specifically noted that some, including himself, can switch, box and move around.

Different opponents in California and Las Vegas

In the United States, he said, a boxer can meet someone who moves, someone who presses forward or someone who is tricky. He pointed to that mix as a reason to seek different sparring. Acosta also mentioned Las Vegas’s altitude while discussing what makes training there distinct, without presenting it as the main reason for choosing the city.

How close does Latino think he is to a WBC title shot?

Latino believes winning his next fight could put him close to an opportunity against a World Boxing Council champion, though he did not say a title fight had been arranged. He also mentioned the World Boxing Association and said he would take an opportunity against any champion rather than insist on one opponent.

Before a previous fight, Acosta felt he was one step from a title. His view now is that each win creates a chance for the next fight, making October 16 an important step rather than a guaranteed route to the championship. He described the WBC as his main path while keeping other possibilities open.

That approach also governs his schedule. Acosta said he and Santos had discussed staying ready instead of resting and waiting for a call. He would accept a fight two weeks after October 16 if that was the opportunity presented to him.

Acosta stated how he would weigh the terms of a title opportunity:

I don't care about the venue. I don't care about the pay. I don't care about nothing. I'm 100% focused on the title, on the championship and believe me, I'm going to do it.

What did Latino say about his fights in Canada and the United States?

Latino said the upcoming bout would be his fourth fight in the United States, after three fights in Canada. He remembered building support in Toronto, but said his path ultimately brought him to the United States, where he is now preparing in Las Vegas for the October 16 date.

Building a following in Toronto

One of Acosta’s Canadian fights took place in Toronto. He said he was building a fan base there and felt a connection with the Latino community. He described Canada as a good place for that period of his career, without giving a specific reason that the arrangement ended.

Continuing in the United States

Asked about the change, he said only that things happened and that he was glad to be where he is now. “I'm glad because everything happens for a reason,” Acosta said. He connected his current position to the October 16 fight, which he counted as his fourth appearance in the United States.

Why does Latino expect to win his October 16 fight on Pro Box TV?

Latino bases his confidence on his preparation, his mindset and the experience he believes he holds over his opponent. He said time in the ring with high-level boxers has shown him where he stands and argued that his opponent has not had the same opportunities or fought the same caliber of competition.

Acosta spoke about both fights and sparring when explaining that assessment. He referred to former world champions and prospects he has shared a ring with, but did not give a detailed account of those sessions. His point was that such work has helped him judge his own level before this bout.

He also framed the difference as a matter of desire. Acosta said his opponent does not want the opportunity as much as he does. Those are his reasons for expecting to have his hand raised on October 16; he did not identify a particular tactic or predict a specific result beyond a win.

What does Latino want fans to remember after his next fight?

Latino wants his October 16 performance to make people pay closer attention to Brian Acosta and his pursuit of a championship. He said he intended to make a statement, then return to the WBC path he considers his main goal, while remaining willing to face another champion if that chance comes first.

Acosta told Orozco that people would start hearing more about him after the fight. The promise followed his account of a split camp, his willingness to take a short-notice opportunity and his belief that he is ready for stronger opposition.

He did not name a champion he had agreed to face or give a timetable for a title bout. What he did make clear was the priority: take the next available opportunity, perform on October 16 and keep moving toward a championship.

Who is Latino?

Latino is a professional boxer identified as a three-time Continental Americas champion. His championship credentials list the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association and International Boxing Association.
