MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — A Massachusetts fighter is heading to Canada this Saturday to fight for a championship. Christine Roule of Iron Strong Muay Thai Academy in West Boylston has won three straight fights and on April 18 she heads to Mississauga to fight for the women's 48kg Reprezent Muay Thai Series title at The Grand Victorian Convention Centre. Standing across from her is Caelyn Sunga Batac of M-Town Muay Thai Academy in Milton, Ontario. Batac is a Team Canada athlete who has competed at the Muay Thai World Championships three times and medaled each time. She also holds the IFMA Grand Slam title and the Muaythai Ontario 48kg Championship. She is fighting 15 minutes from her home gym in front of a home crowd. Both fighters are coming into this without a belt. One of them leaves with one. Roule is an International Muay Thai Champion who competes across the 43–48kg range. Her three-fight Canadian winning streak (Warriors Cup followed by back-to-back victories in Canada) is what earned her this shot. Saturday she walks into the toughest room of her career. Batac has spent years competing internationally for Canada while training out of Milton. The Grand Victorian Convention Centre in Mississauga is the closest she has fought to home in her career. Her record at this weight speaks for itself - three World Championship podiums, a Grand Slam title, two TBA Championship wins, and the provincial belt.
