This video captures one of the most bizarre and famous late-game blunders in recent NFL history, involving Todd Gurley and the Atlanta Falcons against the Detroit Lions in 2020. Down 16-14 late in the fourth quarter with 1:04 remaining, the Falcons had first-and-goal at the 1-yard line. As the clip shows at the start, quarterback Matt Ryan specifically instructs Gurley in the huddle, telling him repeatedly, "Don't score. Don't score." The plan was simple: run down the clock and kick a walk-off field goal to leave Detroit with no time left. On the handoff, Detroit deliberately let Gurley walk through the line. Realizing the trap midway through his run, Gurley tried desperately to stop his momentum and fall down short of the goal line ("TRIES NOT TO SCORE"), but his forward momentum carried him over the line for an accidental touchdown ("SCORES TD"). Giving the Lions the ball back with over a minute left turned out to be fatal. A few plays later, Matthew Stafford led Detroit down the field and threw a game-winning touchdown as time expired ("LIONS SCORE TD AND COMEBACK"). The video hilariously captures the aftermath: Matt Ryan holding his helmet in utter disbelief ("REALIZES"), paired with a lingering shot of coach Raheem Morris on the sideline with the caption "YEP, HE'S GETTING TRADED 😂", all set to dramatic background music. It remains a legendary example of how scoring a touchdown can actually lose you a game in situational football.
