Alan Kahn, often called the "Godfather" of Bible-style speed bagging, is the author of *The Speed Bag Bible: The Ultimate Speed Bag Training Program*, first published in 1995. The book stands as the most comprehensive guide ever written on the subject, covering equipment selection and setup, basic movements and rhythms, and a systematic breakdown of 24 individual punching and elbow-striking techniques performed from the front, side, and back of the bag. Kahn developed a clear abbreviation and notation svstem that lets oractitioners combine these techniques into hundreds of continuous, flowing combinations. Additional chapters address martial-arts applications (including kicks), advanced patterns and "punch drumming"--striking the bag in time with music. The work effectively launched the modern revival of creative. non-traditional speed-bag training and remains the foundational reference for the style known as Bible bagging. A self-described frustrated drummer with boxing experience and a black belt in martial arts, Kahn began hitting the speed bag in 1972 while at Memphis State University and has trained with it for decades. He emphasizes the baa's rhythmic, almost musical quality and often practices while riding a stationary cycle, treating the equipment as both a fitness tool and a means of self-expression. Beyond the book he produced accompanying instructional videos and DVDs. founded online communities. and is featured in the documentary *Art of the Bag*. His notation system and technique catalog are now widely used by enthusiasts worldwide, transforming what was once mainly a boxing warm-up into a demanding, entertaining, and addictive form of coordination. endurance and rhythmic training.
