Nate Jennerman's quick guillotine submission on Kevin Croom

Nate Jennerman didn’t need much time to turn Kevin Croom’s offense against him. The two open the fight exchanging at range before Croom suddenly changes levels and drives underneath Jennerman looking for the takedown. That’s where Jennerman immediately recognizes the opportunity. Rather than simply sprawling and trying to disengage, Jennerman wraps Croom’s exposed neck and begins locking up the guillotine. Croom stays committed to the takedown, continuing to drive forward and attack Jennerman’s legs. But that forward pressure only keeps his head trapped. Jennerman widens his base, stays heavy over Croom and prevents him from recovering his posture. There’s no frantic attempt to jump guard or force the fight to the ground. He simply maintains position and continues tightening the choke from his feet. Croom keeps driving, but gradually the takedown attempt begins to disappear. His legs start to give way. Jennerman keeps squeezing. Seconds later, Croom goes limp and the referee rushes in to stop the fight. What makes the finish so impressive is how quickly Jennerman changes the meaning of the position. One second Croom is attacking a takedown. The next, that same attack has exposed his neck and put him in a fight-ending submission. Croom saw a takedown. Jennerman saw a neck. And once he had it, he never gave it back.
