Robert Saleh on 49ers' attempt to draft Cam Skattebo in 2025 NFL Draft

The 49ers were ready to draft Cam Skattebo. The Giants got to him first. Robert Saleh revealed that during the 2025 NFL Draft, San Francisco had its eye on the Arizona State running back. Saleh was the 49ers’ defensive coordinator at the time, and he says Kyle Shanahan loved Skattebo. But New York selected him with the 105th pick in the fourth round before San Francisco could make its move. It’s easy to see why Shanahan wanted him. Skattebo runs like he takes every tackle personally, fights for yards after contact and brings the kind of energy that can change the feel of an offense. Imagining that style in Shanahan’s system is a pretty wild NFL “what if.” Now Saleh is the Titans’ head coach, preparing to face the Giants and the back he nearly coached in San Francisco.
