The boxing scene in Canada has the potential—but there are key issues holding it back.
One improvement already being addressed is the move toward more standard weigh-in structures, making it easier to host major fights. Big events can happen in Canada, and venues like Scotiabank Arena have proven they can sell out.
But the biggest obstacle? Taxes. High taxation makes it far less attractive for top fighters to compete there. At the end of the day, boxing is a business—if fighters and promoters can’t maximize their earnings, they’ll take their fights elsewhere.
The formula is simple: reduce financial barriers, and the big names will come. When that happens, the Canadian boxing scene has everything it needs to truly take off.
